Man now I want someone to draw some Kendrick and Donovan yaoi fan art now. He he. I had one in mind...kind of a "What happened when Donovan was passed out after first getting the demon?" In my twisted mind, I see Kendrick taking advantage of that....Seeing as the next scene IS a motel bed. Then again, it's not rape if it's willing. Okay, as much as I want to Not Get Involved, right now I'm picturing Kurt reading through that demon contract, and eyes bulging at one part, mumbling, "Okay, he definitely didn't read this."

I think "fanart" implies that it's your own interpretation. But did you want to know anything about a particular character?

I was going to give this entire thread a Spoiler tag, but since there were so many twists in the last couple chapters, I'll keep it in case others are in a situation like Yami's. Anyhoo... now that the twin OMFG chapters are winding down (seriously, it's almost over, things will start to calm down now), time to address some specifics: First off, Matt and I have been working on this story for a long time, and had a bare-bones plot outline since 2004. As little as we had back then, and as much as we've tinkered with it, we have always looked at these two chapters with a certain hushed anxiety. Plotwise, these were the most intense events of the series. Although there will certainly be more drama and discomfort, this is easily as dark as MST will get. We are almost exactly halfway done. In anime terms, think of this as that point in a 26 episode series around episode 12 or 13 where all hell breaks loose... the first time. The two featured battles were Molly v. Claude and Kathryn v. Kamila. Molly's fight was meant to be more cerebral and Kathryn's was an intense, nasty catfight. Based on how it ended, and Kathryn's story for the rest of the series, it had to get that hardcore, even though I was also a little humbled after writing that scene.
All I can say about Kendrick is that although it seems to be ignored in the subsequent chapters (as you can imagine, the characters will be a little busy tending to other things), his death kicks off much of the events in the second half of the story. It's one of those "trust me, we know what we're doing" things.
For Claude and Marie, there were several hints dropped throughout, especially for Claude (Marie's is mostly buying all those "going away" stories). Since demons can sniff out other demons, his response to encounters with Kendrick and the Zukoni are telling.
Now as for Marie... we'll get a little more in depth into her story and there is a lot more going on. She's got an interesting angle on this as she was pretty much sincere about everything she to said to Troy (as well as her reaction to Sho's enrollment and Kurt's death). It doesn't excuse her actions and her feeling of helplessness doesn't improve her situation, but her story is not finished yet.
A Pro Tip for readers as the volume goes on, keep tabs on what characters experienced and what they learn from others. Don't assume everybody gets together and divulges their full story to everybody else. Some of the omissions play a huge part in volume 6.

Well, thanks! Though I think I have been keeping track of the names as they pop up in-story (or, in Claude and [initially] Marie's cases, in the bios). Which reminds me- did you deliberately name Uriel after the Motown drummer? *wikipedia search........ ......... headdesk* Holy crap that is an astounding coincidence. Fact is, Matt (kerrian) came up with the name Uriel, which I had never heard used as a first name until then. During the tribunal, I wanted to compliment his semi-exotic first name with a bland last name, so I picked Jones out of the blue. I never imagined that somebody important would actually share that name, especially since few of the primary characters share a name with anyone particularly significant. Still, given how much Uriel hates being referred to by his full name, it actually works quite nicely.

Almost all the main characters have a last name. I saw to that when I last revised my master character sheet. I haven't completely finished giving everybody a last name, but it's mostly episodic characters like the Chioni trio.
Since you asked, I'll share some of the full names that either don't get revealed or are mentioned once in passing:
Claude McClellan Kendrick Butler Marie O'Donnell Uriel Jones Kamila Hurley Reggie Longwell John “Yellow” Black Jim “Red” White Jack “Green” Gold Tabitha Melrose Brian Smittle Kiki Riviera Ray Pearson (Molly and Renee's father)

This closes the books on book four. Been a while since we've had a suspenceful finale, but it won't be the last. Volume Five begins October 14. Thank you all so much for participating in the discussion. It's so encouraging that you've taken the story to heart enough to comment, debate and gush about things. As the author, it's often out of place to participate in the discussion myself, but it's hard to speculate and choose sides when I know what happens next. Honestly, I was a bit of a Molly/Kurt shipper. Guess that didn't work out. But I'm glad you're enjoying yourselves. I hope you stop by once in awhile during the interim to chat about what else is going on, other media or even other parts of my site (I will upload the next episode of Hijojo's story, I swear!). I'll be popping in frequently, especially to answer more story questions if you have them. Most importantly, I have recorded a completely new prologue for the podcast. I hope to have that edited and uploaded this weekend as a sneak preview of the MST audiobook. Ideally, I'll get enough of it finished to release in weekly doses sometime before volume five starts. It'll be a great way to revisit the story from the beginning and get your friends hooked if they haven't checked it out yet. Once again, thanks for reading and I'll see you around!

No, I tagged the entire thread so you don't need to keep using that tag. Incidentally, if you ever start a thread that completely revolves around current events in the story, go ahead and follow suit.
And there is one more session Wednesday. Sort of an exclamation point on the whole thing.

Based on reader feedback, I'm working on a revised prologue in a week or two to coincide that goes more in depth into Molly's rise to power. It will coincide with the audiobook that I've finally started recording.
The student council is operated as sort of an Orwellian dystopia. Molly uses her bullying tactics primarily on school administrators while leaving the students to their own devices, unless they pose a direct threat to the Council. Claude roots out any potential instigators, which is part of the reason no rebel movements have succeeded. Standard autocratic tactics, really.
The true crime that Donovan would have been charged with had he signed with the Hokoni would have been treason. Kendrick and the other demons have never been affiliated with the MST... they'd be hit hard too were they ever caught (like Kaz in volume 2). The true nature of demonkind is something that will be touched on more in the near future.
And fine, I'll give the silly answer: in the original RPG that spawned the characters and general settings, the guy playing Donovan gave him the Flunkies attribute. Because Donovan was so stupid, the flunkies had to be stronger or else one of the player-characters would be constantly getting killed. When Matt and I were adapting the story and took a hard look at what we had, we found Blaine and Bryce's abilities so hilariously ridiculous we kept them.

The official answer is that Blaine and Bryce are above the system and the only characters who are consistently able to break the rules of the MST universe. Naturally, because they can't use magic in L. B. Gould and they're hapless wimps, they end up following Donovan around all the time because he started bossing them around first.
The unofficial answer is too silly to post.
