Here the place you can ask 1st Agent those questions about MST that have been burning in the back of our skull and he'll do his best to get back to you on them.

I've always wondered. Even though Blaine and Bryce used to be more powerful, magically, than Donovan, how did they become his minions?

The official answer is that Blaine and Bryce are above the system and the only characters who are consistently able to break the rules of the MST universe. Naturally, because they can't use magic in L. B. Gould and they're hapless wimps, they end up following Donovan around all the time because he started bossing them around first.
The unofficial answer is too silly to post.

Ah I see. That makes sense I suppose. If only I had people like Blaine and Bryce at school...

How come Molly actually has respect at her school? Most people would totally rebel to someone that controlling even if they glared down their opponent.
Also, I've been wondering since the trial. If you can be executed for joining a Demon faction, how did Kendrick and others become Demons?

The unofficial answer is too silly to post. ...Now I'm kinda curious as to what this unofficial answer actually is.

Based on reader feedback, I'm working on a revised prologue in a week or two to coincide that goes more in depth into Molly's rise to power. It will coincide with the audiobook that I've finally started recording.
The student council is operated as sort of an Orwellian dystopia. Molly uses her bullying tactics primarily on school administrators while leaving the students to their own devices, unless they pose a direct threat to the Council. Claude roots out any potential instigators, which is part of the reason no rebel movements have succeeded. Standard autocratic tactics, really.
The true crime that Donovan would have been charged with had he signed with the Hokoni would have been treason. Kendrick and the other demons have never been affiliated with the MST... they'd be hit hard too were they ever caught (like Kaz in volume 2). The true nature of demonkind is something that will be touched on more in the near future.
And fine, I'll give the silly answer: in the original RPG that spawned the characters and general settings, the guy playing Donovan gave him the Flunkies attribute. Because Donovan was so stupid, the flunkies had to be stronger or else one of the player-characters would be constantly getting killed. When Matt and I were adapting the story and took a hard look at what we had, we found Blaine and Bryce's abilities so hilariously ridiculous we kept them.
