Forty chapters down, forty to go... it's the official halfway point of Magical Security Taskforce!
Thanks to everybody for reading, commenting and participating here. It's a lot of work to write the story, and it's gratifying to see people enjoying it.
Rather than concentrate on the specific goings-on of the current volume, I'm interested in getting your thoughts on the story as a whole so far. It's been a long time since that first hell hound and I want to know what you all think: best moments, favorite story arcs, favorite characters, stuff they can't stand (TroyxMarie notwithstanding), anything. There's a lot of story left and I want to make it enjoyable.
(Also, as evidenced by Meg over there, there are now gaia avatars for the new characters introduced in chapter 40)

Wow! Time really does fly.
I will say that it took me a while to warm up to the story. It was more a matter of skewed expectations than any actual faults- I thought we'd get more of a look at the academy classes, and so it came across as somewhat dry, especially with the details explicitly passed over at the start of chapter 7. But then, what you said there was true- they don't have much effect, and I suppose what with Reggie, Giles, etc., we're compensating for it.
I am enjoying the unpredictability of the plot- instead of a single Big Bad to defeat or whatever, we basically have a coming-of-age story, with epic battles and intrigue thrown in, and I have no idea how you wrap something like that up- not that we need to worry about that for quite a while. And you can sure throw in genuine shocks when you try!
It's refreshing, in a way, to see the "demons" more as "punch-clock villains" than anything else- as we saw a couple chapters back, they're more like a mirror of the MST. Of course, we haven't seen most of the ones really in charge, and no club that comes up with something like the vrockrompir curse is one to be admired.

I don't know if I can really pin down one specific thing about why I've liked the story as much as I have. I did rather enjoy (and was shocked at times) by some of the recent chapters. The contents of said chapters were so twist-filled, it looked like M. Night Shamylan helped write them. But I digress.

I don't know. I can't decide on a best or worst moment exactly, but I know that I enjoy a few things. I liked that MST took a more realistic spin on the whole concept of balancing magic, fighting "demons", and real life. I also like that not everybody learned magic at an epically fast pace (or disappeared for a week and came back extremely powerful). The best thing I like is that the story is starting to take some twists and turns I didn't see coming. Every session makes me hunger for more and wait (rather impatiently). Overall, there's nothing that I dislike or annoys me and I think that you should just continue how you are now :3
